John Snyder has 40+ years of industry expertise in health care executive leadership with both health systems and health plans. He is also currently a Senior Advisor at BDC Advisors. BDC is a trusted advisor to the nation’s largest health systems, academic medical centers, physician organizations and health plans. They partner with executives, boards and physicians through major healthcare transformations, bringing deep insights, a collaborative approach and pioneering strategies with proven results.
Previously, John led Sanford Health Plan (SHP), which serves a primarily rural footprint with members in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. Under his leadership, SHP strengthened its integrated partnership with the Sanford provider system, becoming an invaluable partner in the organization’s overall strategic approach to value-based care. This included the development and launch of SHP’s Medicare Advantage product, which received a 4.5 star rating from CMS within its first 2 years, earning SHP a place on the U.S. News and World Report list of top Medicare Advantage insurers.
Prior to SHP, John held dual roles as president and CEO of Health Alliance Medical Plans and Executive Vice President/System Chief Operating Officer with Carle Health System. He worked for Carle Health for more than three decades in a variety of leadership positions across operations and health plan administration.
John has a deep understanding of health care delivery and provider-led health plans. He is a systems thinker with a proven reputation for cultural transformation.
